We had another fun weekend at Sebago Lake! Maddy and her parents joined us for the great time. Kiddo was oscillating between having the best time ever, and having the worst time ever. Are we totally in the tantrum stage?

Friday at the beach he had a great time, kept himself busy with the sand. Walked into the water. Played while Kim and I chatted. Then, Saturday at the beach when Maddy was around (she was napping on Friday), constant crying. Nothing we could do made him stop. He was not hungry, not thirsty. I am still not sure what to do in this situation.

Then we went on the boat. The last time we went on the boat it was a massive disaster. We went with Nana and Pa and despite the snack and sippy cup trying to distract him, he was not having it. This time, he loved the boat! Snacks of course helped too, but both he and Maddy (who also had previous aversions to boat rides) were taking turns playing "King/Queen of the World" at the bow of the boat.

We are still trying to figure out how to fill the day. Our toys get a little boring after a while. We have a ton of crayons, finger paints, etc waiting in the wings, but I think he is still a little too young for that. We are also in the process of moving him into the "big boy" room! No longer will he be in the room right in our Master Suite, he will be down the hall, which will allow me to watch tv at night. Just in time for Fall programming!
Maybe it is time to start the occasional structured play group and/or class. My kids love a music group (calling it a class is stretching it) and their Early Intervention play (structured) play group - with snack, activity and some "free time" for gross motor skills. Any "community" kid can join for a nominal price depending on space (EI kids get first come/serve on classes). We are going to keep doing it even though Penny gets the boot in October. Then in the PM April always takes them for walks after afternoon snack. Back when my kids did two naps we did both music and group in the afternoon and moved it to mornings after they dropped their morning nap. She met some other moms/caregivers and now does a playdate every week or two. Just some ideas - hope we see you this weekend!
