4 under 2 - July 4th Weekend with the Kings

We are at Bago Lake! A full week of fun with the boys for me, almost a full week for Joel Husband to0 - though he has to go back briefly for work and to check on our new patio situation. For the big July 4th weekend we had the Kings up, they have two boys the same ages as Joel Andrew and James so it was a nicely matched pair. Lots of boobie-feeding, talk of sleeping and waking hours, and tantrums. We played the game, "pass the cranky" - where at all times it seemed as though at least one of our boys was throwing a tantrum. But we all survived.
Actually, we were all surprised. Brian even admitted to thinking that there was a 90% chance they would be headed home early. But they made it till the last second, and then some. We had a great time. Declan and Joel Andrew played so well together, and Nolan and James for the most part slept well. The daddies got to golf, and the ladies (as a result of a tantrum by yours truly) got out for an hour and a half, just to GET OUT and have a drink. It was heavenly. Thank you, Joel Andrew, for throwing the umpteenth tantrum of the day which lead to my tantrum which lead to my Irish beer sampler. Yum.
Anywho, we played in the lake, went on the boats, shared toys. We even found more than an hour or two when ALL FOUR BOYS WERE ASLEEP! They all went to bed by 8 every night (except for Joel Andrew, who has never had a problem before but due to ear infection and cranky stage had his first bad night ever on Friday). We were eating dinner and drinking wine on the porch like the old days, it was lovely.
Except, it wasn't the old days and we all knew we would potentially be in for long nights with our little ones and early mornings with our bigger ones. But it worked out. It was hard not to keep saying things like "Next year it will be easier... In five years it will be so easy... In ten years we are golden..." But again, I know we should not wish the time away. Look at James' smile below. Will he always have this look of pure happiness? I hope so!
