Mother's Day, 2014

Mother's Day is tricky in this household, and was especially tricky this year.  It was the same day as Joel Husband's birthday, and the day after James birthday, all of which were on a weekend.  So, it is hard to celebrate so many things but we managed to do it anyhow and had all the Nana, Ama, and Auntie Grandma love and even the mom-to-be Auntie Jennie in celebration mode as well with some small presents.  It was Auntie Jennie who hosted us, bringing out all of the bells and whistles for a beautiful brunch with flowers and balloons, and all of Joel Husband's favorite foods!  WE had a lovely afternoon and even Auntie Grandma was there and laughing a bit.

Probably one of the more memorable moments of this day was when James had a bout of soupy poopy.  It whipped through him in the course of the three hours we were there in Lexington.  One minute he was playing happily in her living room and then he just froze and said he needed help.  Upon further inspection, and a puddle on the floor none of us could tell where that was coming from (sorry for the graphics, but I will never forget needing to asking him and the poor little look on his face when he said: "It came out of my bum," pointing to his little rump, poor guy).  He went through a few pairs of diapers after that, after valiantly trying to get to the toilet on time each time.  Note to self with this guy… carry lots of extra emergency diapers.  He has been out of diapers now for so long that Joel Husband was scrounging in every crevasse of the car to even find one.  You never know when one might come in handy.

Anyway, he survived the remainder of the day, was fine by evening time and is now back to new.

For Mother's Day the boys made me some awesome things.  James made me a bouquet of flowers, which now matches the one Joel Andrew made me a few years ago and sits on my desk at work.  I have a pair now!  Joel Andrew made me an intricate gift - a necklace with his thumbprint, which I wore all day, a box that the necklace came in, and as a bonus - he made me a sheet of paper that says: "I will give you hugs and kisses everyday."  Which is now - and forever will be - hanging in the dining room. I cannot wait for the teen years when there will be whining at hugs and kisses, I will just point him to that note.

It was a great weekend with friends and family and a lot to be thankful for, all still combined with the stress of work and the feeling that so much is up in the air right now.  Hoping I can survive the remainder of spring and the summer, and make it to some "smoother sailing days?" in August, followed by a welcomed routine when Joel Andrew goes back to school in the fall.  Is this possible? If not, I will need to figure something out!
