Animal Kingdom was on this morning’s agenda. Again, we still haven’t been to the Magic
Kingdom but that is all about to change.
As for Animal Kingdom, lessons learned and tidbits of the
boys will all come in all one package, so read on people with different reasons
for reading my blog, all three of you.
Lesson we learned a long time ago and will always, always do
– is make sure to go to Animal Kingdom on the day it has extra magic early
hours, and go right onto the Safari ride.
The early morning time when they just let the animals out of their cages
and into this place in the park is the best time to see the animals. We saw all of the animals, up close. We literally saw a baby giraffe romp, an
ostrich poop and pee (this was particularly exciting), multiple elephant ears
flapping (did you know, you can tell it is an African elephant by the shape of
it’s ear, if it looks like Africa, there you go), we saw the lioness and the
lion relaxing, and we saw two teenage elephants playing – amongst others. Loved it!
Then it was off to Kali River Rapids. Joel Andrew started to pull he doesn’t want
to go on it, but as this is one of the only “rides” James can go on – it has a
38” requirement which James just meets vs. all the other rides which is 40+--
we kinda forced him. Once on the ride he
was super happy and had a great time (Joel I am talking about here, James was
fine with it regardless) – it was really good that Joel lightened up because
the poor kid was DOUSED with water.

pulled him to the side stripped him naked and wrung out his clothes. That was at 9:30am when we got off the ride
and we just got home at 1:30 and the poor guy was still wet. Happy though.

We did Rafiki’s planet.
And, it became nightmarishly clear that James DOES NOT like
characters. Sure, Rafiki is
extra-scary… But it doesn’t matter. Tusker House lunch with Mickey, Donald and Goofy was
more of the same. Joel Andrew has a
great time and gets his brother’s book signed for him. But I think at this point we should just tuck
James’ book away for next year. He is
done. He cowers in the corner while Joel
hugs the characters. Next year…
We did some of the zoo walks which are good down time. Joel Andrew and I took one of the bird sheets
and identified all of the birds. This
was fun. Who knew this could be
fun? Lunch at our favorite, Tusker House
(I gorged myself silly since this is really our only meal all day) and then we
were off to the room for nap. James is
sleeping like crazy right now, the Joels are at the pool and I am happily doing
laundry, drinking a glass of wine and blogging.
Ah, vacation. (meanwhile, all the
crowds are back at the parks!). Off to
MK in about an hour or two and can’t wait.

Also, those taking notes – at Animal Kingdom in Africa is
this awesome little show that happens right outside of Tusker House. Joel Andrew was fascinated by it last year
and I am so glad we caught it again this year.
Nothing huge, just a bunch of guys and drums and dancing. So much fun.
So glad we have the ability to find these little gems amongst the big
ones too.

Can you see how far James is as possible from Donald? The camera man was so excited that he "caught the photo without any trace of James' crying" - I was disappointed, I really want to record this ridiculousness.

I hope James eventually comes around... after watching his brother have so much fun meeting the characters!
