Last year we went strawberry picking with Nana, and Joel Andrew was in the backpack. This year we went with friends and it was a whole different story. Joel Andrew is now mobile, and able to pick, which is the upside. Joel Andrew is now mobile, which is the downside. And then there is James, who is not able to help at all yet. At least he had a cute outfit on for the occasion.

It was pretty much the most beautiful day ever for the event. We had ice cream at Applecrest first, which was a nice mid-day snack, except my son will not eat ice cream. Bryce and Declan enjoyed enough for Laurel and Joel, who instead munched on cones. Their chalkboards there kept Laurel and Joel occupied while the others finished their ice creams. And Mommy's ignored the sign that was posted: "keep chalk to the boards and not on the wall." They should just make that whole wall a chalkboard, really!

After ice cream we went picking. Lauren and I coached ourselves. If all else fails, we had fun at ice cream, it is beautiful out, etc. Good thing we did because it was tough. Running after toddlers in a strawberry field with a bjorn on is a workout!

Joel Andrew took to it anyway, he enjoyed picking the strawberries and kept saying: "I see one!' He generally got some good ones too, though we did have some less than ripe ones... totally white, and a few "floor strawberries."

James did well, overall the experience was hectic and fun. What isn't with little kids? Next time though I think Applecrest should wise-up. I was slightly disappointed of their policy that you go to the store, get a basket and sign-in. Then you drive to the site, pick strawberries, then back to the store where you pay. Why can't we just buy a bucket when we sign in? That's what you do for apples? Do they know how hard it is to get two kids in and out of a car?
