Yesterday we took a trip on a pirate ride around Plymouth Harbor. You may have seen these things before - the boat goes out and the kids get to be pirates for a bit. We have seen them virtually every harbor we have recently visited but never went on before because James was so small. This time it was a go.
It was about $15 per person, and is a one hour cruise around the harbor. Your kids can get dressed in pirate paint, and get a pirate hat. Sword was extra $. We did not get a sword to James' great dismay. The goal of the trip is the large boat we, and about 40 other people are on, pulls up to a "pirate ship" moored in the harbor. Then, a poor college student jumps up from the boat moored and allows our kids in the boat to attack him with water guns for about 10 minutes. It was kinda ridiculous, but the boys were super enthralled and loved it. Eventually, you win the treasure and everyone splits a bunch of cheap gold rings and coins. The boys are still carrying around their booty.
Grumpy went with us and they had a great time. Joel Andrew, like his Mommy and Grumpy, was hesitant to do things - no face paint for him no fun for him. But James went right for everything. He had face paint everywhere which added to the fun when we got home and terrified Ama that this face paint would then get all over her very nice living room!
All in all a good trip and worth the money. Pushy parents and kids a ton older than our boys put a damper on it a bit. So, if we were to do it next time, we would look for something where the recommended age range is not so large. But good times were had by all!
