Hubi and Germany

I highly suggest that if you have a friend in a foreign country, you should go and visit them.  Joel Husband was very lucky to have a foreign exchange student live with his family during one year of high school - and when I say live, I mean Hubi came home with them on school breaks.  He wasn't at their home for a full year, but for vacations and some weekends and the holidays.  While at school (they went to Holderness) Hubi lived in a different dorm from Joel.  Despite the small time, a huge relationship was formed.  Hubi was a groomsman at our wedding.  The Williams flew to Germany for his.  And, to this day, whenever either one of them - Joel or Hubi - travel to their land, even with last minutes notice - we show each other around.

We were supposed to see Hubi's entire family, he has two girls just a year younger than Joel and James, but they had a terrible flu and only Hubi made it.  So, he took us around, took us out to eat at a delicious restaurant, took us to the Deutches Museum which was awesome for Joel Andrew - to have some time in the science for kids section…  Then we walked, and walked and walked - which I loved and even Joel Andrew tolerated.  We saw the guys surfing in the city of Munich.  We had a drink at the biergarten - which was mostly closed down for winter - in the center of the English Garden…  Then we went to James Taylor (more on that later).

The next day Hubi rented a car and took us out to Neuschwanstein Castle.  It was a beautiful ride in the country and we were forever grateful to not have to rent a car ourselves, or take a bus with a ton of tourists.  It snowed, a ton, and we joked with Hubi that the "summer tires" on the car might be put to the test.  They were, with Joel Husband pushing the car out of the parking lot.  But it was all for fun.  I was a little annoyed about the wait the place made us do after it took forever to get up to the Castle, but we persevered and made it and had an unforgettable meal of deer stew on the way home (more sausages for Joel Andrew).  In full Hubi fashion, he barely made it on the airplane ride home after dropping us off at the hotel.

I hope we will get to come back to Europe and spend sometime with his family again and again.  Imagine how awesome it would be for my boys and his girls to interact?!  Hubi is a wonderful person and we are glad to know him!
