Auntie Grandma
This week Great, Great Aunt Pat - our, Auntie Grandma as Joel Andrew has named her, has been visiting. Aunt Pat is my Dad's Aunt and was born in 1919. That makes her 92. And, she travelled all the way here, from New York! (Well, my parents picked her up)... But, another one of my new year's resolutions crossed off! Aunt Pat had only ever met Joel Andrew, and that was for her 90th birthday party when Joel Andrew was 3 months old, so she really needed to meet James and see how big Joel Andrew has gotten.
We should all be so lucky to be like Aunt Pat when we are 92. She is awesome, gets around great, and is here to have fun. She has been the life of the party, and has really taken a shine to James. She enjoys spending time with Joel Andrew, too - don't get me wrong. But her and James have a thing.
She took James for an hour long walk yesterday, and she hangs out with him all the time, feeding him cereal, just watching him do things. She is a big fan. She is the only person in the whole world who I will let call James "Jamie." And, she does it a lot. But it is very cute to see her with both boys and how loving a relative she is to them is so wonderful. I do not have any grandparents left, and we aren't really chatty with what little relatives we have left, so this is nice to see my boys with a member of my family.
When they are older I am going to blow their minds when I tell them they once ate dinner with a woman who was born in 1919! We are having fun showing Aunt Pat all of the gadgets of the day, she is blown away by iPhones and iPads and FaceTime. By the photos that stream on our TV, and the GPS in the car. It is fun to teach her about this technology. She even has learned how to use the one cup brew coffee machine! Though, she continues to say: "And this is supposed to be easier?" We hope Aunt Pat will come back and visit again and again.
